Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team is off to a hot start, starting the season 3-1. After a season opener to Maryville College (Tenn.) they have reeled four straight victories against Covenant, Wesley, William Peace, and Ferrum College.

Senior forward Juan Luna leads the team in goals with two while sophomore goalkeeper Cody Martin leads the team with 16 saves in 19 opportunities.

In their most recent game, the Royals triumphed over Ferrum College in a 2-1 victory. Sophomore Daniel Obour scored the deciding goal with 1:53 left on the overtime clock.

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team begins this season with a 1-1- 2 record, with three of the four games having gone into overtime.

The team started off the season with a 1-1 tie against Marymount before getting their first victory against Ferrum by the score of 1-0. The team then made the trip to North Carolina for the Salem College Invitational where they tied 1-1 with Agnes Scott before falling to Salem 3-1.

First-year midfielder Rachel Sauder leads the team with four points. The team’s next game will be Saturday, Sept. 16 at Notre Dame of Maryland (0-2).

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team has started off with a 2-7 record after their first nine games. After starting off the season 2-2 at the EMU Invitational and dropping a game at Southern Virginia, the team traveled to Cleveland for the Marcia French Invitational where they lost 0-4 against tough competition.

Junior middle blocker Maria Yoder leads the team in kills with 44 while senior setter Jasmine Johnson leads the team in assists with 114. Johnson is currently second on EMU’s all time assists list at 1,972. The team’s next match will be Friday, Sept. 15 at Hollins (4-3).

Field Hockey

The field hockey team enters this season with a 3-2 record after the team’s first five games. After a tough 1-0 loss to Sewanee at the open of the season, the team won three of their next four games, including an massive 11-0 win over Sweet Briar.

Sophomores Alyssa Gore and Emily Price both lead the team in goals with three apiece. The team’s next game will be Sunday, Sept. 24 at Randolph-Macon (1-1).

Cross Country

The women’s cross country team is dominating the start of the season as they have come in first at both the Hyder-McMahill Invitational and the JMU Invitational. Senior Michaela Mast came in first at the Hyder-Mc- Mahill Invitational with a 20:16.7 time and also came in second among non-Division I runners with a 20:51.0 time at the JMU Invitational.

For the men’s cross country team, first-year Justice Allen came in 11th with a 17:39.7 run at the Hyder-McMahill Invitational and also came in 12th among non-Division I runners with a 28:40.0 run at the JMU Invitational.

Both teams will compete next at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. on Friday, Sept. 29.
