With the autumn season coming quickly upon us, EMU’s Campus Activities Council (CAC) decided to sponsor an afternoon at the local agritourism spot “Back Home on The Farm.” With CAC covering admission, it was quite the festive way to get into the fall spirit. With over 35 activities on the property (according to the “Back Home on the Farm” website), including their corn maze, tube slides, obstacle courses, farm animals, and a food truck or two, this CAC event drew in a number of EMU students to come and enjoy the warm afternoon on the farm.
Current sophomore Will Bartel said that, “There were pumpkins there to buy, I was considering getting one to carve but I didn’t have time. I really liked the petting area though. The chickens and the llama were really soft. I would love to see similar events in the future, doing seasonal events is a really fun thing. All in all, it was a really good afternoon and a great break from studying.”
Some of the CAC members who were helping in running the event, mainly handing out wristbands from the front gate, also enjoyed the event and were excited to see the students that came having such a good time. “There are a bunch of really cool attractions here,” said Junior Ashley Mellinger. Senior Aliyyah Haggard agreed on this, and added their take on some of the events. “There are the hayrides (minus the hay), pumpkin patch, and the corn maze has been a big hit as well. This warm weather is perfect for enjoying the fall. Tyler Goss and Anne Coyne are masterminds, they got all of this organized so well.”
The “Back Home on the Farm” area is very close to EMU, only about a five to ten minute drive from campus. Senior Maya Smith, another one of the CAC members running the entrance to the event, said that she was surprised that it was as close to EMU as it was. “This is a really popular area for local families to come over the weekend during the fall. And it’s barely a stone’s throw from EMU, who knew?” It was popular indeed amongst families in the area. Many people were there in addition to the large number of EMU students that were on the grounds that afternoon, a lot of which had young kids with them.
It goes to show that the events held at “Back Home on the Farm” are great for all, students and local families alike. Thanks to CAC for sponsoring this wonderful fall event!
