Earthkeepers is one of the many sustainability clubs on campus. Our mission is to act in and around the EMU community to inform, educate, and encourage sustainable attitudes, practices, and awareness.

This year, we had the privilege to install solar panels on top of both the University Commons and Roselawn. This effort was made possible by the Student Solar Panel Project and other clubs on campus.

Within the next year, we are planning some new and exciting changes in our activities! We will continue to host, alongside the other sustainability groups, a transfer meal in the fall. We feel that it is important to welcome new members of our community to join in our activities.

We also host an end-of-the-year cookout and facilitate a mini-grant which allocates a total of $500 to several sustainability projects on campus. The rest of our events will be raising awareness about student behavior changes. Several years ago, EMU signed a Climate Action Plan to help monitor and reduce our carbon emissions, with the goal to be carbon neutral by 2035.

The first check-in year, 2020, is fast approaching, and EMU is no longer making positive progress on our carbon emissions.

Earthkeepers wants to help students realize some of our contributions to EMU’s carbon emissions and to show administration that students care about continuing to reduce carbon emissions.
