SGA heard a funding request from Campus Ministries for the Theater of the Beat event coming later this semester. The Theater of the Beat is a Canadian touring theater company that aims to spur conversations about social justice in communities.

They will be performing their show “This Will Lead to Dancing” here at EMU.

SGA approved an additional $250 and has now committed a total of $750 for this event.

In addition, SGA’s letter to EMU’s administration asking that they support this event was successful and significantly bolstered the fundraising campaign.

SGA also received an update from Senior Ben Zook about the status of the new concession stand. The stand will now be constructed via a sponsorship from Pepsi in return for selling the company’s products.

Therefore, Zook’s project has shifted to solely constructing a solar array beside the field instead of the entire stand.

Junior Ariel Barbosa attended a writing committee meeting and reported that they have been focusing on how restorative justice is—or could be— used in academic integrity enforcement.

Junior Seth Weaver shared about the bookstore committee meeting. One concern is that students are returning half-semester classes’ books during the semester; students are receiving less money since books are worth less in the middle of semesters.

The week’s session concluded with the senate dispersing into Forum, Financial, and TV subcommittees to plan and coordinate their respective upcoming tasks.

Today was a lively day for SGA. The Senate approved $500 out of Trevor Oyer’s (EMU Explore’s) $1,000 request for the construction of a disc golf course on EMU’s hill.

The course is being designed carefully and Oyer has been mindful of disrupting wild-life and humans in the space; much of the course is away from locations that see more traffic.

SGA also heard and approved a $65 funding request from the PreProfessional Health Society for an upcoming club event with guest speaker, Dr. Todd Weaver.
