Here at EMU, the spirit of Easter has been going around and is continuing to do so from the beginning of April and throughout the month. Easter brings forth the spirit and energy of happiness and recovery. As the end of the year is coming closer, the energy that Easter brings strengthens the students’ will to continue with their classes and upcoming final exams and projects.

Easter also brings around a fun atmosphere throughout the campus of EMU. The Campus Activities Council’s (CAC) held an egg hunt around campus towards the end of March. Three large plastic eggs and three small ones were hidden around campus, each holding a surprise inside. The large eggs even held gift cards, and the students who found them were encouraged to snap a picture and send it into the Royal Radar, EMU’s campus wide GroupMe.

Moving forth from the egg-citing egg hunting, EMU had services for Easter that students could attend to learn the meaning of Easter and its importance for a Mennonite school like EMU. There was an all-day worship where students could attend anytime throughout the day and attend a service for Easter.

EMU students were also given the opportunity to attend an off campus event to celebrate Easter. On the morning of March 31, students were provided transportation from campus to Divine Unity Community Church (DUCC) to attend the 11:20 a.m service held in partnership with EMU’s Every Nation Campus organization.

In addition to these events, a mysterious person in a bunny suit appeared on campus April 1 and spread the spirit of Easter, with pictures of the figure making their rounds on the Royal Radar.

The meaning of Easter is a very important one for the Christian community, and as students and staff that attend a Mennonite institution, it is relevant to understand the meaning of Easter. Easter is one of the principal holidays, or feasts, of Christianity. It is a holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as described within the New Testament of the Bible. Easter is also considered the most important and oldest festival of the Christian church. Easter is also preceded by the season of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
