Let’s face it—sometimes, life sucks.

It is something that we are not usually taught growing up. We are told that as long as we try our best, everything will turn out all right. And honestly, that is just not true. Sometimes we cannot control the circumstances around us. It can be really frustrating, realizing that life is not always pleasant. In light of that, here are seven ways to make life suck a little less:

1.Scream. I would advise you to do this somewhere other people will not hear you, like your car, unless you intend to get the police called on you. As weird and crazy as it sounds, screaming can be therapeutic. And yes, I speak from experience. It is a good way to release all of your frustrations — and possibly lose your voice, so be careful with how intensely you do it.

2.Exercise. I know you have probably heard this a thousand times before, but exercising really can help.

It releases endorphins, which will make you feel better. Not to mention that exercising outside or at a gym can allow you to get away from some of the things that are stressing you out.

3.Make a list of things that are going well. Even when life seems terrible, there are always a few things that are going okay.

Are you healthy? Have a roof over your head? Crack a killer joke in class? If you are having trouble thinking of things, mentally go through your day. Was it sunny? Did your professor give you an extension on that research paper? Was dinner at the caf unusually good?

4.Watch a cat video, or any cute video that makes you feel happy, even if it is only for a moment. They are not only adorable and hilarious, they can remind you of the good things in life.

4.Color. You do not even have to use the adult coloring books they make now if you are sick of mandalas like I am — print out a Spider-Man coloring page and break out the crayons.

6.Sit outside. And no, do not bring stuff to do. Do= not do homework or read or listen to music. Just sit and listen to the world for a while.

If you find yourself worrying, force your mind to come back to the moment and focus on what is around you. Maybe even fall asleep — as long as you are in the shade or have sunscreen on. I can guarantee you will only make that mistake once.

7.Remember that it is okay to have an awful day. Sometimes, no matter what you do to improve it, a day will be rotten. And that is okay — tomorrow will be here soon.
