Through WCSC, I am working with Washington Digital Media (WDM), a company that creates designs for their clients and makes videos to promote them. Right now we are doing work for the campaigns of local political figures around the area, like Monica Palacio who is running for Washington D.C. City Council, and Ed Halon who is running for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in area 2B09. Also, I get to live with some of the coolest people ever who care about how others feel and treat everyone they meet like family.

Our work for Palacio and Halon includes designing door hangers and posters. It’s been interesting working for the campaign of a political figure in the D.C. community because you get to be up close with them and understand what kind of person they are really like. You see them as a person who is standing up for and representing the people of D.C. I like this internship because it has given me the chance to be more knowledgeable about not just the field of digital media but also the D.C. community.

One time we got to see Monica Palacio campaign at the national memorial along with her competitors. They all were talking about serving the community and being a voice for the people of D.C. After they talked about what they were going to do for the city, they were all friendly with each other and I was amazed how everyone could converse with each other like that even though they are up for the same position. It makes you see how even though they have posters and merchandise all over the city making them famous, they are regular people who want to make a difference in the community.

Remember how I’ve said I meet the coolest people ever? Well, even though these guys are cool, the real cool ones are the ones after work hours. After a hard day’s work in the office, everyone in the WCSC house gets to talk with each other about the things that happened and how we personally feel. We are open and honest, and care about each other very much. Whenever we see that one of us is having a bad day or someone hasn’t shown up, we always save a space for them. If they ever need to talk about their problems, we will listen. Living with everyone here has been like another family where we care, love, and understand one another; and always make it a point to never leave anyone behind.

Overall, being in WCSC has been a great experience that I think people should try. You’ll get to explore not only the city but the culture and people around you, and meet people who will be like family to you. It has been that way for me; these memories that I am making in WCSC are by far some of my most precious memories ever.
