In early March, the coronavirus was spreading vigorously in all fifty states. All citizens were advised to stay at home and not go anywhere in public unless it was necessary. Since then, millions of stores and restaurants have closed down, losing employees and money, with some even going bankrupt. How many Americans have had to transition from doing activities at home rather than going out to roller skate, bowl, or visit movie theaters?
Movie theaters are a big part of the entertainment business in the United States. Many families and friends enjoy one another’s company going out to see a new film. With the movie theaters closed, a lot of people have resorted to watching movies online. Sometimes these movies can be repetitive, which leads to boredom. Since the United States is a big consumer country, citizens tend to enjoy the continuous stream of new films, as well as going out to watch them. Movie theaters have a nice environment, making everyone feel welcome and excited to see a new production. That is the big difference between staying at home and watching a movie in the theater.
There are millions of movie fans eager to return to watching films out in public. However, with the continuation of COVID-19 cases spiking, there is no definitive response to when movie theaters or other places offering entertainment will reopen. With that being said, there has been news about some movie theater companies reopening. One such company is AMC, which will be opening around 100 theaters in the United States. In order to attract more customers in the face of COVID-19, many companies are going to offer viewings of recent blockbuster movies with safe protocols in place, including certain number capacity, required masks, social distancing, etc. It depends on how well AMC and the other movie companies opening locations do business wise and if their safe protocols are even safe.
Since the Roaring 20’s, films and movie theaters have made a huge impact in the United States. The movie theater industry is trying its hardest to make customers feel safe and get them back in public to watch new films. With coronavirus hugely affecting the entertainment industry, the real question is: When will the movie theater industry bounce back?
