We all know the basic definition of writing, whether it’s to write a paper for class, to compose an essay, or take notes. But for others, it is so much more than that.
Writing can be a gateway for people who don’t know how to verbally express how they feel, to have a chance to release all those thoughts and emotions that they have been holding on to.
It serves as a form of art, the ability to be able to see a piece of paper and fill it with words that come together beautifully, being able to form a poem based solely on your heart’s desires.
It is a special feeling to look at a paper that you have turned into a story full of twists and turns, characters, plot, setting, and smile because you are the author. But the most beautiful thing about it is that once you pour everything out onto the paper, you then have the power to either share that with the world, or keep those unspoken words to yourself.
Writing is a tool that should be utilized by anyone. Whether you are a world-renowned author or a college student taking a writing class, you will benefit from writing.
I challenge you to take time out of your day and get three pieces of paper, to write out every thought, emotion, feeling, worry until you have filled every inch of the page. Even if you have nothing to say, write “I don’t know what to write” over and over again; allow everything to pour on to the page. This method is called three pages, where you take time away from your phones, schoolwork, stress of everyday life, and allow yourself to be completely variable with yourself for three whole pages. This process can take 30 minutes, it could even be 3 hours, but the goal is to just keep writing, even if you go over three pages.
We must take more time to allow ourselves to speak through writing because everyone has a voice and there’s never a wrong time to start using yours.
