A few years ago, my younger cousin introduced me to the movie “Enola Holmes,” a movie about the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes who goes on a quest to solve the mystery of where her mother went. The movie was very aesthetically pleasing and quickly became one of my favorite movies. So naturally, when I heard that there would be an “Enola Holmes 2” coming out, I was very excited.

“Enola Holmes 2” premiered exclusively on Netflix  on Nov. 4. The movie stars Millie Bobby Brown as Enola, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Helena Bonham Carter as mother Eudoria Holmes, and David Thewlis as Superintendent Grail.

The story, set in the mid 1880s, picks up with Enola living in London and working to start her own detective agency; however, when clients come in, they think the company is for her brother Sherlock. Multiple times clients walk out on her because she is so young and a woman. However, that all changes when a young girl comes into her shop asking for help finding her sister. For the rest of the movie, Enola and Sherlock’s respective mysteries are interwoven in a way that isn’t revealed until the very end, making for a sensational ending. Enola traces the disappearance of a young girl from a match factory to a ball and through the streets of London. In the process she reconnects with Viscount Tewkesbury, the pseudo-love interest from the first movie. It is revealed that Enola and Tewkesbury have feelings for each other even whilst solving a violent case. In the end, the movie reveals that the answer to both Sherlock and Enola’s mysteries lie with the same person, though I won’t completely spoil who it is.

I really loved this movie. The performances from Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill are fantastic. Both actors shine in their true-to-life characters that aren’t too over-the-top. Personally, my favorite actress in this movie was Helena Bonham Carter. I originally know her as Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter so seeing her incredible range was a delight.

This movie built on and was even better than the first movie. I have incredible respect for the creators of this movie because in every aspect, the movie was satisfying to watch. From the actors’ performances, to the costumes, set, filming, and writing, this movie is easy and fun.

Next time you’re trying to decide on a movie, try “Enola Holmes 2” for an incredible two hours of entertainment, mystery, not too over the top romance, and satisfactory results.
