Attention all pumpkin spice lovers! The legendary Common Grounds coffee shop has created a pumpkin-based drink for the month of October. So, if you love the taste of pumpkin spice dancing on your taste buds, run over to Common Grounds before it’s too late! This drink is called Pumpkin Chai, it consists of pumpkin pie ice cream, chai tea, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
I went down to Common Grounds to check out the new drink for myself; the overall look of the drink is a very cute orange color topped with whipped cream and cinnamon. My impression of the drink after I took my first sip was that the taste of pumpkin really dominated all the other ingredients, so if you are someone who isn’t a strong pumpkin spice lover this drink may not be for you.
The consistency of the drink was very thick, and I also noticed that there were pieces of what I believe to be pumpkin pie as well, which paired well with the thickness of the shake. If you are someone who does not like very thick milkshakes but wants to try this new drink, getting a spoon may be the best option for you. After I couple more sips, I began to taste the hints of chai within the drink, which I believe was a good idea on the part of the barista because the chai really helped balance the strong taste of pumpkin. The chai also contains small amounts of caffeine as well, so if you get jittery from caffeine very easily this might be a drink that is better for you to avoid. But, if you are like me who is a big coffee drinker or loves caffeine, this drink could be a perfect little shot of caffeine to help you get through your busy day.
Towards the end of the drink, the whipped cream started to swirl into the rest of the drink, and this personally was my favorite part; the whipped cream along with the cinnamon on top really toned down the taste of pumpkin and helped blend all the ingredients together. So, if you do want to start your journey of becoming a pumpkin spice lover by trying this drink, I definitely recommend mixing with the whipped cream into the shake before taking your first sip. Overall, I did enjoy the drink. If I had to rate it from 1-10, I’d give it a 7 only because I feel like there was an overuse of pumpkin spice. Despite that, it was a very cute, tasty drink created just in time for the fall season.
