Cuban Burger is a Cuban-American restaraunt located in downtown Harrisonburg that serves delicious food and drinks. I’ve been to Cuban Burger many times before, but I wanted to bring some friends with tastes different from my own to contribute to a more diverse review

Last Saturday, my boyfriend, my best friend, and my best friend’s boyfriend all went out to the restaurant.

Dimly lit and simple, the atmosphere held a classic yet serious ambiance.

We arrived at 6:18 p.m. but did not get our food until 6:51 p.m. Our seats were directly in front of the door, so the breeze made the wait extra unpleasant. In the restaurant itself, there was not much seating available. We were not the only ones who had to wait.

Every seat was full. The bar was full. Cuban Burger is obviously quite popular. It was time to see if the wait was worth it.

All four of us ordered water to drink. Everyone except me ordered fries to go with their meals, and three out of the four of us ordered burgers. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich.

The chicken sandwich received little commentary. My friend was so absorbed in enjoying her sandwich that she didn’t have much to criticize. Her sandwich, Pollo a la Plancha, comes with grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and some kind of mayonnaise-like sauce.

I ordered Buenos Dias, a burger with an over easy egg, Swiss cheese, and bacon. After taking just one bite, my egg exploded all over my bun, leaving me with a mess. Taste-wise, the burger was wonderful: well-prepared, greasy but not overdone, gooey, and delicious; however, eating it was a struggle. I eventually used a fork to finish it off.

My boyfriend could only describe his burger, El Jefe, as “Wow.” This burger comes with crispy onions, pork, pickles, mustard, and Swiss cheese.

My friend’s boyfriend ordered the Big MAKA, which is a burger that comes with two patties, American and Swiss cheese, lettuce, pickles, and onions. Unfortunately, his fries were cold.

All of us agreed that a napkin was a necessity with the meal. The fries were rather plain, but the lettuce was of good quality.

The food tasted good; it was just messy. Three out of the four of us would rate the overall experience an eight out of 10. My friend’s boyfriend rated the experience a six, since his burger had onions despite him asking to have them removed. The wait was worth it.

Cuban Burger is located at 70 W. Water St.
