Kind staff, beautiful space, and affordable prices for good portions of food. Does it sound too good to be true? Wait, there’s more: Tacos 4 Life partners with Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit organization, where for every taco, quesadilla, bowl, salad, or nachos purchased, a portion of the profit goes towards helping fight hunger in the world.
Feed My Starving Children had a meal packing event the past weekend. Many volunteers divided into groups and helped pack boxes of premade food for children in other parts of the world. One of the activities through each of the volunteering times was the meal packing timed competition; the prize was a free meal (a 30 dollar voucher) for all of the group members. Why do I mention this? I was part of the winning team and I got to try a lot of the options offered in the menu to make your first time going there more enjoyable.
I got the two taco meal combo that comes with a soft drink or a tropical punch, and a side. I wanted to try things I had never tried before, so I got the tropical punch, a chipotle steak taco and a fried chicken taco, and a cilantro pesto rice. Overall I liked my meal. The steak was tender and flavorful, the chicken was very soft and moist with honey (I would not recommend the chicken if you do not like sweet things). On the other hand, the punch was too sweet for my taste and even though I liked the flavor, some of my friends did not enjoy the pineapple aftertaste. Finally, the cilantro pesto rice was very good; however, next time I go I will choose chips and salsa/queso instead.
Besides eating my own food, I was able to try some of my friend’s meals as well. The chips and queso were a good entree or side dish, and it is easy to share if you eat with your friend group or family. Furthermore, the ones who had tried the tacos and bowls said that the bowl was tastier and more filling for them. Finally, for dessert my friends and I shared a portion of delicious sopapillas, which were fried pastries dipped in cinnamon and honey.
Not only did the food taste amazing, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I did not know my free meal card was a voucher for 30 dollars until the employee told me, and I was able to get myself and my friend a meal. He also took the time to recommend his favorite taco flavors and some of the popular options for customers. The space was very clean and decorated with bright colors, and lovely pictures. There is a big sign in the middle of the restaurant that says GIVE. I think this place is faithful to this word, not only because it gives to the hungry through their partnership, but also because they provide good service and care for their customers. In conclusion, Tacos 4 Life gets a 10/10. If you would like to visit them, Tacos 4 Life is located in Market Street and offers a free taco for anyone who gets the app.
