Junior Rebekah Hoskins continues to shine as she embraces her faith and humanitarian values on and off the playing field. Hoskins is both a softball and volleyball player here at EMU, but she has not limited herself to extracurriculars. She has a determination to invest herself in a variety of other areas in the classroom, and around campus.
When asked more specifically about these hobbies and areas of self-expression, Hoskins lit up. She began discussing her zealous devotion towards faith and the core values that she has gained through hunting, fishing, and being close to nature.
“I am very passionate about my relationship with God. He gives me the ability to get up each day and so I try and do my best for Him,” Hoskins said.
Hoskins is a well-rounded student-athlete. When playing for the softball team, she is able to play an array of outfield positions as well as maintain a strong middle component for the volleyball team during their winter season.
Sports have always been a large developmental factor for Hoskins, since the beginning of her softball career at the age of nine, including a short-lived clogging phase. Hoskins has been encouraged from a young age to step outside of her comfort zone and achieve anything and everything she puts her mind to. “My parents wanted me to be involved in everything. They signed me up for clogging but the teacher quickly quit,” Hoskins laughed.
While discussing the people that encourage and supply a strong support system to her, Hoskins continued to convey large amounts of gratitude toward her family, faith, and friends. All of these components have led to her success. “[Friends and family] believe in me no matter what, and they have full confidence that I will do great things,” Hoskins said.
More specifically, she wanted to give thanks to her father, saying that he is her biggest fan and pushes her to do the very best.
When asked about her education and hopes for life after school, Hoskins revealed her persistent goals to gain applicable knowledge and a degree in social work. “I enjoy making deep connections and relationships with all people and I hope that through social work I am given the correct platforms in order to do this,” Hoskins said. She then continued to express an intense desire to work with the elderly and plans to one day immerse herself into a nursing home setting or work closely with hospital discharge patients.
