Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team ended the regular season with a loss to Emory & Henry 74-56. With the loss, the Runnin’ Royals ended the season with a 10-14 record and a 5-11 record in the ODAC. First-year DJ Hill led the way with 12 points while senior Isaiah Harris-Winn scored 11 points of his own. Senior Maleke Jones contributed seven rebounds and five steals. The team will play in the first round of the ODAC Tournament at Bridgewater College (14-11, 8-8 ODAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team ended their regular season on a high note with a commanding 71-37 win over Hollins. With the win, the Lady Royals ended the season with a 13-11 record and an 8-8 record in the ODAC. Senior Myneshia Walker led the way with 14 points, while sophomore Chrissy Delawder had eight rebounds. The team will play in the first round of the ODAC Tournament at home against Shenandoah (11-14, 7-9 ODAC) on Monday, Feb. 19.
Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball team matched up with two nationally ranked teams in Yoder Arena, taking a convincing 3-1 win over CVC rival No. 10 Juniata before an impressive 3-2 loss to No. 4 UC Santa Cruz. The win over Juniata not only gave the men a seven-match winning streak, it more importantly pushed them into first place in the CVC West with a 5-1 record. The Royals are now 12-5 overall.
In the win, the Royals took the first set over Juniata 25-23 before dropping the second set 25-20. The team fought right back after that, as they won both the third and fourth set by a score of 25-23. Seniors William Ragland and Tim Callahan both led the way with 17 kills each, and junior Christian Taylor notched 44 assists.
In the loss, the Royals tried pulling off the upset, as they were back and fouth the first four sets, but UC Santa Cruz managed to take the fifth set 15-8. Junior Travis Abele led the way with 19 kills, and Taylor had another 53 assists.
The Royals’ next matches will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at home, where they will take on Ramapo College (4-7) and Stevenson University(8-5).
