Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team had a few nail biters as they start the season with a 2-4 record. The team’s last game was close, but they fell to Averett University 88-85. Senior RaShawn Latimer led with 20 points and four rebounds while first-year DJ Hill had 16 points. The team’s next game will be Friday, Dec. 8 against Apprentice School (0-9) at the Don Glick Classic at Bridgewater College.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team won their last two games and sit at 4-3 for the season. The Royals triumphed over Trinity (D.C.) 96-25. Sophomore Lindsey Krisak led the team with 15 points and junior Jess Washington had 10 points. Almost all EMU players scored at least a basket. The team’s next game will be Sunday, Dec. 17 against Rosemont College (6-1).
Track and Field
The track and field team enjoyed a successful meet this weekend in Salem, Va where they participated in the Bast-Cregger Invitational. First-year Jordan Short had a great start in the 200m where he won his heat and took second overall in a field of 48 runners with a time of 23.29 seconds. Senior Connor Faint also won his heat and took fifth overall with a PR of 23.42 seconds. The women’s 4x400m relay team made a good effort, taking fourth out of eight teams on the track. The foursome of senior Brittany Williams, junior Laurie Serrell, first-years Anna Cahill, and Chelsea Brubaker were the top D-III team with a time of 4:28.22. The team’s next match will be on Jan. 26 and 27 at the Finn Pincus Invitational back again in Salem, Va.
