Soccer

A program-record 11-0 victory at Sweet Briar in the heart of the season was a high-point for the soccer women this season, not to mention their 6-0 win against Hollins just three days later. The women won six of their 14 matches this season. They scored 27 goals in 14 games, with sophomore Rachel Sauder finding the back of the net six times. First-year Hannah York’s OT winner at home against Catholic, her first collegiate goal, was another memorable moment from the 2018 season. Seniors Sylvia Mast and Logann Braun are the team’s two graduates.

Basketball

The basketball women matched the basketball men’s record of 10-16, also finishing 10th in ODACs. A five-game win streak mid-season pulled the Royals up to an even record of 7-7, but the women came away with victories in just three of their final 12 games. Sophomore guard Emily McCombs averaged a team-high 9.8 PPG, while first-year Lexi Dean posted 46 blocks on the defensive end of the court. Graduating seniors from the women’s basketball team are Lindsey Krisak, Jess Washington, Precious Waddy, Kiana Childress, and Jourdyn Friend.

Volleyball

Five wins in a span of seven October matches proved to be the most fruitful part of the women’s volleyball season, which ended with a final record of 8-20. Firstyear Hannah Johnson’s 201 kills led the team, followed by Maria Yoder’s 158 and Erin Brubaker’s 146. Sophomore setter Carly Gingerich posted 537 assists. Brubaker, Yoder, and Beck Hoskins are the team’s graduating seniors.

Softball

The softball women kicked off their season with five wins and two losses in North Carolina. Sweeps at home against Mary Baldwin (8-0, 7-0) and Southern Virginia (6-4, 10-6) put the Royals on solid grounds at a record of 10- 5, but a late-season slump saw the women drop nine of their last 12 games, finishing the year 16-20. Sophomore Alia Miller and first-year Nicole Mongold tied for the most hits with 41 each. Beck Hoskins, Dallas Crawford, Brittany Viands, and Sydney Reath wrapped up their collegiate softball careers.

Field Hockey

Field hockey started the season on fire, winning six of their first seven games. From there, the women lost momentum and won only two of their final ten games, ending the season with a record of 8-11. Leading the team in scoring were sophomores Skylar Hedgepeth (11) and Kayla Maret (9), and first-year Rachel Breslin (6).

Golf

At a Bridgewater Invitational, junior Olivia Longacre scored a career-low 77 in Round 1, ultimately finishing in second place when the second day of the invitational was cancelled. First-year Kierra Zuercher participated in four rounds throughout the season, scoring a collegiate career-low of 103.
